Police have arrested two suspects on claims of wanting to bribe a Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers with Sh179,000.

Police said the two suspects were caught red-handed when they tried to bribe DCI officers to release a car theft suspect.

The two suspects aged 38 and 40 were arrested by officers from DCI Kondele in Kisumu.

Police said that the suspects claimed to possess crucial information about a well-known fugitive involved in car theft syndicate.

"Their yarn quickly unravelled when they attempted to grease the officers' palms with the hefty bribe to keep the fugitive from facing justice," DCI said in a statement.

While being interrogated, the DCI said the two suspects informed the police of the whereabouts of the main suspect accused of stealing a car.

Police found him hiding inside an Isuzu double cab truck in the parking lot of a restaurant.

DCI officers arrested the main suspect and alongside the two suspects who reportedly wanted to bribe them.

They are currently being held at Kondele police station awaiting their date in court.

DCI said they will do everything possible to apprehend those involved in corruption while upholding the law with utmost integrity and impartiality.

"Cases of attempting to tip the scales of justice with underhanded tactics will be dealt with in accordance with the law," the DCI said.
