Fire breaks out at Diani Reef Hotel in Kwale – Red Cross

Efforts are underway to put out a fire at Diani Diani Reef Hotel in Kwale County.

The Kenya Red Cross said they were responding to the fire incident which broke out at around 4.30pm.

"Kwale County Fire Department and the Kenya Red Cross are currently responding to a fire incident at Diani Reef Hotel in Kwale County," Kenya Red Cross said in a statement on X.

In an subsequent update an hour later, the voluntary emergency service provider said the fire was contained with no casualties reported.

"The fire has been contained. Thankfully, there are no casualties."

Red Cross did not reveal the cause of the blaze.

It comes at a time the country is still reeling from shock after a dormitory fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri claimed the lives of 21 children.

Three other learners at the Isiolo Girls High School sustained injuries after a fire ran through dormitories at the school on Saturday sparking protests from locals.

The cause of the twin fire incidents at the schools is still unknown.
