Pharmaceutical Board suspends four people over alleged misconduct

The Enquiries and Disciplinary Committee (EDC) of the Pharmacy Board and Poisons Board has suspended the licences of four pharmaceutical practitioners for alleged professional misconduct.

The committee's chairperson Richard Muthoka, said two pharmaceutical technologists had their licences suspended for two years.

The two are accused of allowing unlicenced individuals to access their professional credentials.

They have also been accused of allowing unlicenced individuals to manage their licensed premises, thereby jeopardising public health.

The board further suspended another pharmaceutical technologist for three months for allegedly failing to ensure the proper closure of former premises.

It is reported that this allowed an unqualified person to continue overseeing operations, posing a risk to public safety.

"After a thorough review of the facts and your written confessions, the Board concludes that your actions represent a serious breach of trust and integrity, essential qualities for anyone in the pharmaceutical field, read part of the Committee's decision," the statement reads.

In a separate ruling, the Committee also suspended the license of a pharmaceutical technologist for three years.

The pharmaceutical technologist was allegedly found impersonating a student during the Board's May 2024 examination series.

"The Board reaffirms its commitment to regulating the pharmacy profession to protect public health."
