Most parts of the country will remain dry over the next seven days, the Kenya Meteorological Department has disclosed in the latest forecast .

In a weather outlook report released on Tuesday, the weatherman said a few parts will remain relatively wet with moderate rains.

"Most parts of Kenya will experience generally sunny and dry conditions. However, expect light to moderate rainfall in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the Coast," Met said.

Some parts of the country are also expected to experience low night temperatures.

These will include some areas in the Central Highlands, Central and South of the Rift Valley, and South-eastern Lowlands, where temperatures will drop to below 10°C.

Temperatures during the day are expected to be high and in some areas it will go higher than 30 degrees Celsius.

"Prepare for high temperatures exceeding 30°C in the South Rift Valley, Coast, Western, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya during the day."

A few days ago, the Meteorological Department told the country to brace for a chilly and rainy September.

In an interview with the Star, director David Gikungu said they expected the cold season to extend deep into the month.

“The month of September has normally been one that you can pick any day for an outdoor event and you will be fine weather-wise, but that is not the case now,” he said.

He cited heavy rains in Ethiopia and the effects of climate change as the reasons behind the chilly weather in September.

“In Ethiopia, they have had very heavy rain during this season. After that, the sun starts its way towards the south and as it goes it will be overhead at the Equator sometime this month. Whenever it is overhead, it is followed by a cloud bunch, which is causing rainfall over western Kenya,” Gikungu explained.

“With the cloud bunch it means we cannot have intensive heat from the sun.”

Gikungu added that the phenomenon is further aided by changes in climatic patterns which have also changed drastically.
