A contingent of GSU officers have been deployed to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to avert any potential escalation after workers down tools.

The strike which started Tuesday night with a go-slow reached its peak Wednesday morning.

Key operations at the facility remained disrupted with flights delayed and hundreds of passengers stranded.

The strike has organised by the Kenya Aviation Workers' Union (KAWU) after negotiations with the airport management hit a dead end.

A spot check at key sections of the terminals showed no activity as workers kept off their workstations.

At one point, the officers arrested some few workers who kept chanting "Adani must go" as they blew whistles.

Those who spoke to the Star vowed not resume work until their grievances are addressed.

Apart from the Adani deal, they also want some KAA Board members and three senior managers to quit citing incompetence and mishandling of the leasing agreement.
