The Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) has joined the strike at Moi University worsening the situation at the college where operations have remained paralyzed for the third week

Both UASU and KUSU members protested in Eldoret demanding payment of their salaries and remittance of their pension funds amounting to more than Sh5 billion.

KUSU branch secretary Mary Chepkwemoi said they want the university to implement all agreements with the workers and pay all that is due to them before they resume work.

UASU secretary at the University Nyabuta Ojuki claimed efforts by the Labour Ministry to resolve the strike dispute at the university had failed because the management of the college was not willing to effectively deal with issues raised by workers.

Ojuki claimed the workers were yet to receive their July and August salaries.

“The money deducted from salaries including pensions, union dues and bank loans is yet to be remitted,” Ojuki said.

He said the employees of the university had been suffering for more than a decade.

Chepkwemoi said they want President William Ruto to intervene and save the university from total collapse.

She accused the politicians from the region of promising to help resolve issues at the university but not doing so after being elected

“When they came looking for votes they gave us fake promises and have now neglected us,” Chepkwemoi said.

She claimed even casual workers had not been paid for the last eight months.

The UASU and KUSU officials vowed that the staff would remain on strike until all their grievances were resolved.
