Maragua leaders and residents have called on a section of lawmakers from Mt Kenya region to stop engaging in divisive politics and instigating early 2027 campaigns.

Led by MP Mary Wamaua, the leaders and locals faulted a section of MPs from the region for early political drums.

She said that while at it, they have turned a blind eye to the real issues affecting the region and the country at large.

Wamaua also called out her fellow legislators for waging a political war against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua despite him being the highest ranking leader from Mt Kenya, in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

She insisted that Gachagua remains to be the only nexus to the executive for the region's developments.

The MP accused the lawmakers of fight 'one of their own' instead of mobilising them to address crucial matters affecting and relating to the common mwananchi.

"All that matters is if the voters are getting the promised yields and returns in Coffee milk and tea and if the promises made by Kenya Kwanza government are delivered to our voters," Wamaua said.

Her remarks followed a declaration by over 48 MPs from the region led by the National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah in Nyahururu, backing Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to be the Mt Kenya region's link to the Executive.

Their support followed a similar endorsement from Mt Kenya East leaders, who recently declared Kindiki as their regional leader.

Wamaua said the MPs should be addressing priority issues like the eviction of small traders from Wakulima market in Nairobi.

She said the 48 MPs have lost touch with their constituents.

"Such a presser of 48 MPs should have pressed for accountability of the missing kids of Endarasha fire. If these MPs were in touch with their voters they should have demanded for a fair treatment of victims of house demolitions in Mathare, pipeline and Mai Mahiu dam tragedy victims among others," Wamaua said.

The MP also said that the lawmakers should, in the same unity, address the alleged takeover of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Indian firm Adani Group.

She noted that it is a matter of National concern, which should be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

Resident Andrew Thuo said that the DP has not been declared unfit to hold his seat and neither has he announced that he is unable to discharge his duties as the Deputy President including his mandate to spearhead reforms in the tea and coffee sectors.

They called on President William Ruto to intervene and quell the duel pitting the leaders.

"It's high time the President come clean on whether the politicians attacking his Deputy have his blessings. He promised, while campaigning in Mt Kenya region, that he will not allow his deputy to be ridiculed and persecuted. He must stop these political wars," Thuo said.

Resident Fazul Mustafa said that the 48 MPs had no blessings from their electorate to make such political declarations, adding that they just expressed their personal opinions which does not reflect the region's stand.

"For now their declaration was just hot air aiming at stirring the political Landscape to scare the Deputy president out of government. As they do so the Deputy president is getting bolder and mutating into a darling of Most Kenyans," Mustafa said.
