Two dead, 11 injured in road crash on Nairobi-Mombasa highway

The accident at Transami involved a Toyota Hiace and motorcycle.

A motorcyclist and his pillion passenger died on arrival in hospital after being involved in an accident with a passenger van at Transami on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

The accident, which occurred at around 9.45 am on Friday, left 11 passengers who were travelling in a Toyota Hiace van with multiple injuries.

"It happened that the driver of Toyota Hiace was driving from Nairobi heading towards Mombasa general direction and on reaching on the location of accident, had head-on collision with the motorcycle which was being ridden against free flow of traffic,” a police report said.

"The rider and his pillion passenger aged 32 years were pronounced dead on arrival at Coast General Hospital. Scene visited, documented and both motor vehicle and motorcycle towed to Changamwe police station awaiting inspection,” the report added.

The police report said the injured victims were taken in for treatment at  the Coast General Hospital and Port Reitz Sub-County Hospital.

The victims incurred varied injuries ranging from head, shoulder, limb and hand fractures.

The injured are aged between 20 and 38 years old.
