A-19-year old woman was on Sunday arrested alongside her parents for allegedly dumping a newborn inside a pit latrine in Machakos county.

Officers from Kaewa police station smoked the trio from their home at Kyondoni village in Kivaa location, Yatta subcounty on Sunday.

Area assistant chief, Ruth Ndeto, said the three were nabbed after an infant was found inside a pit latrine within their homestead.

"We got reports that the 19-year- old woman who was pregnant delivered yesterday (Saturday) and dumped the infant inside a latrine. This is the reason we came to establish the truth leading to the arrests after we established that it was true she had given birth and dumped the foetus inside the pit latrine," Ndeto told reporters at the scene.

She said the suspects were helping in investigations into the incident.

They have been locked at Kaewa police station awaiting to be arraigned at the Kithimani law courts once investigations are completed.

She said the woman, according to her parents, had gone to relieve herself in the pit latrine when the infant fell into the pit, a narrative she trashed.
