The National Executive Chairman of Bodaboda Safety Association Kevin Mubadi has condemned a hit-and-run incident in Nairobi which killed two riders.

The incident that occurred on Monday morning at Ole Dume Road involved a bus that rammed into a bodaboda rider and his pillion passenger.

About 30 other passengers in the bus were injured in the accident, police said.

Mubadi extended condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.

"This devastating incident is a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved road safety measures and greater accountability for all road users," Mubadi said.

He called on police to initiate a speedy probe into the circumstances that caused the incident.

"Those responsible must be held accountable to prevent such tragedies from recurring," he added.

"We demand that the relevant authorities take immediate action to address this situation."

He said that measures must be implemented to ensure that public transport operators adhere strictly to traffic regulations and that all drivers exercise heightened caution on the roads.

"In this period of mourning, we stand united with the families affected and seek justice for those who have lost their lives. We urge the community and all stakeholders to support our call for better road safety and greater respect for the lives of every road user," he said.

Police said the accident happened at about 8 am causing a huge traffic jam on the roads and adjacent ones.

According to police, a bus racing from Kawangware to the city centre failed its brakes and rammed into the motorcycle ahead of it.

The bus crashed onto the edge of the road fatally injuring the rider and his female passenger.

The bus was towed to Kilimani police station pending autopsy and other investigations.

Police have before raised concerns that some buses using the route are not road-worthy.

Some usually get stuck in hilly areas hence causing congestion on the roads.

A major crackdown is planned to check on the buses’ roadworthiness.
