Detectives are probing a murder incident in Narok believed to have been fueled by a land dispute.

According to Police officers who visited the scene, the victim was identified as 36-year-old Wycliffe Kiage.

Police say he was found lying next to the bushes adjacent to the feeder road crossing the village.

The body had several deep cuts on it with police saying injuries were likely inflicted by a panga which was found beside the body.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Kiage had leased a piece of land, about five acres,  from an owner from the area and had already cultivated it.

The son of the owner of the land, police say, is being treated as the main suspect in the case.

The son is said to have led cows to the leased farm to graze leading to the destruction of crops.

Police say a deadly confrontation ensued leading to the suspect inflicting several cuts on Kiage.

The suspect is said to have fled the scene to an unknown destination, police said.

Police officers from Lolgorian Police Station took the body to Trans Mara West Hospital Mortuary in Kilgoris for preservation pending postmortem.

A blood-stained panga which is believed to be the murder weapon was kept at the station as an exhibit, police said.

A hunt for the victim is ongoing.
