The Nairobi Hospital has assured the public that operations will not be affected even as staff down their tools.

In a statement on Monday, the hospital urged all stakeholders to ignore any reports of an alleged strike.

It insisted that operations are going on smoothly.

"We would like to assure the general public that our operations are going on smoothly," the hospital said on X.

"We urge our partners and stakeholders to ignore reports going round in sections of the media about an impending strike by our doctors. We are grateful for your support," it said.

This comes after doctors in the hospital issued a strike notice telling the public that no new patients will be admitted.

They, however, said that they will attend to patients in the wards, their private clinics and emergency cases only.

"The general public is therefore notified that there will be no more new admissions in the Nairobi Hospital,'' the notice by the Admitting Staff Association reads in part.

''That the central command structure of the Nairobi Hospital is called upon to take note of this critical development.''

The hospital doctors said their decision to down the tools is in response to the "crisis in the governance at the Nairobi Hospital by the board of management".

The doctors said in the notice that their strike is part of their efforts to force the Nairobi Hospital Board of Management to resign.

A section of the Kenya Hospital Association, calling themselves progressive members have called for the dissolution of the board and have called for an extraordinary General Meeting on September 18.

The meeting by the KHA, which owns the Nairobi Hospital, will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi, from 2;30 pm.
