A fire incident has been reported at Mukuru Kwa Njenga, near Muhindi Mweusi in Nairobi County.

In a statement on Monday night, the Kenya Red Cross said they have dispatched a team to respond to manage the fire.

"Our team is on the ground, actively engaging in response efforts alongside community-based disaster response teams," the statement on X reads.

This is the latest report in a series of fire incidents that have plagued the country in recent days, mostly in schools.

Police have linked the recent fire incidents in schools across the country to arson even as investigations continue.

More than 20 fire incidents have been reported in the past few weeks, showcasing a worrying trend in the country.

Property of unknown value has also been destroyed in the incidents so far reported, police said.

Between September 1 and September 9, nine schools have been destroyed by fire.

This included one academy and eight secondary schools.

In one of the incidents under probe, 21 pupils were killed and 20 injured at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri on September 5.

Police say the fire trend is ongoing, and in some of the incidents, incitement has been cited.

The latest school fire incident reported was at Katoloni Secondary School in Machakos County on September 14, 2024.

Shortly after the incident, the Kenya Red Cross said the fire had been contained in collaboration with Machakos County firefighters.

Earlier on Friday, the Red Cross said it was carrying out training to equip Regional Disaster Response Teams to ensure they are always ready to respond when disaster strikes.

"This week in Machakos and Kwale, staff and volunteers from across the country are enhancing their skills in emergency shelter management, international humanitarian law, supply chain, restoring family links, and public health in emergencies to strengthen disaster response in their communities."
