Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has dismissed the Nyahururu declaration that saw 48 MPs name Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as Mt Kenya region's link to the Executive
According to Thang’wa, the only link between the Executive and the people of Kenya is the National Assembly.
His remarks come days after 48 MPs from the Mt Kenya region endorsed Kindiki as the man who will champion their interests at the national government table.
But on Sunday, Thang'wa downplayed the declaration saying it amounts to a vote of no confidence in their Parliamentary leadership.
“The link between the Executive and the people in Parliament. When you see parliamentarians uniting to say that when they want to talk to the president they will speak to a particular person, it is an abdication of duty, lack of responsibility and a vote of no confidence to the people that lead them," he said.
Thang’wa singled out National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah as a top Parliamentary official who regularly meets the President adding that he does not need to go through someone else to see the President.
The Senator said the declaration could only mean that Mt Kenya leaders have no confidence in his leadership.
“Doesn’t he see the president every day? So why meet to look for someone to send to the president when he is there? Isn’t that showing they have no confidence in Ichung'wah?” Thang’wa posed.
The Nyahururu declaration came days after 21 MPs from the Mt Kenya East counties endorsed Kindiki as their kingpin.
This endorsement would later on be followed by endorsed by over 500 elders from Mt Kenya East and subsequently youths.
