A woman has been arrested for the alleged murder of her husband in Matuu, Machakos County.

The woman was arrested after she reportedly confessed to stabbing her husband to death at their rented house located in Matuu Township in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

The matter was reported to Matuu police station as murder incident report at 5.30 am Wednesday.

The incident was reported by one of the neighbours of the two couples.

"He heard screams from his neighbour and together with other neighbours went to check what was happening where they found one woman aged 21 crying while holding her husband Rodney Mwasia aged 23 years whose clothes were socked in blood," a police report seen by the Star read in part.

"The neighbours inquired from the said woman what had happened and she informed them that her husband had disappointed her and she had stabbed him in the left side of the chest with a kitchen knife after which, she also went ahead and stabbed herself on the left side of the chest," the report added.

Police officers from Matuu police station together with the DCI detectives from Yatta rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased in a pool of blood.

Police said the suspect was bleeding from the chest due to the stab wound inflicted on herself when the officers got to the scene of the incident.

A kitchen knife with blood stains was recovered from the scene and kept as an exhibit.

Police said the suspect was escorted to Matuu Level 4 hospital where she was treated and discharged and later escorted to Matuu police station where she is locked.

The deceased's body was moved to the same hospital's mortuary awaiting a postmortem.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.

The incident happened two days after a man was lynched for allegedly stealing Sh5,500 worth of goods in the same Yatta subcounty.
