Political activist Kasmuel McOure has been forced to explain details of his meeting with South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro after photos of them together went viral on social media eliciting speculations.

Kasmuel has been a fierce critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, in which Osoro serves as the Majority Chief Whip in the National Assembly.

As pictures of the meeting with Osoro went viral on Wednesday, a section of Kenyans online accused him of working with the Kenya Kwanza government behind the scenes.

But Kasamuel on Thursday explained that it was the first time they were meeting and he used the opportunity to tell Osoro what he has always advocated for online.

"I go to that members' club often and meet plenty of Kenyans there. The Majority Whip of Parliament is one of the many members.

"It was my first time meeting him, and I took the opportunity to say to his face what I’ve always said online: Their government has failed us in fundamental ways. Extrajudicial killings, false promises on service delivery, and a blatant disregard for the rule of law," Kasmuel said.

The activist noted that during their deliberation they disagreed on many aspects and agreed on some.

Kasmuel insisted that any chance he gets to say the truth to power he will take it.

He added that while many critics on social platforms have always associated him with protests, his leadership is destined to go beyond the streets.

"We disagreed on several issues and agreed on a few. We even had a good laugh before I moved on to the meeting I was actually there for," he added.

"My online critics have often tried to relegate me to protests alone. However, you can not only dismiss me to die in the streets, as if my leadership was destined to end there. If I get the chance to speak truth to power, I’ll do it every time."

Kasmuel came into the limelight during the Gen Z protests that began in June and ran through to July 2024.

He stood out because of his wit, sense of style and passion for a better Kenya.
