Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu has reiterated the critical role Kenyans in the diaspora play.

Speaking during the official opening of the Diaspora Tech Partnership Conference at USIU - Africa in Nairobi, Njogu said the significance of the diaspora community goes beyond remittances.

She noted that the diaspora community play a significant role in advancing knowledge, skills and technology transfer.

“The diaspora is a vital asset to Kenya's growth. Beyond sending remittances, they possess valuable knowledge and skills that can be harnessed to boost entrepreneurship, innovation, and investment in the country,” Njogu said.

The conference was themed "Harnessing the Power of Diaspora for Growth".

The PS called for more collaboration between the government and the diaspora community in order to create more opportunities for economic growth and development.

She said creating an inclusive ecosystem encourages the diaspora to actively participate in meaningful projects back home.

Njogu noted that the diaspora community has access to cutting-edge technology and innovation from around the world, which could be crucial in accelerating Kenya’s development.

The event focused on the vast potential of the diaspora in contributing to Kenya’s economic progress by leveraging their global networks and expertise.

Other dignitaries in attendance were Ambassador Anne Wanjohi, Director of Liaison and Partnerships, along with officers from the Skills and Expertise division and Liaisons and Partnerships.

The conference marked a significant step in strengthening ties between Kenya and its diaspora, paving the way for future collaborations that will drive the country’s socio-economic progress.
