The Teachers Service Commission has dismissed as false claims by a former teacher that someone faked his death and had his pension amounting to Sh7.8 million stolen in 2012.

Titus Sabwami made the claims in a video circulating online, saying he was dumfounded to learn that he was pronounced dead by the teacher's employer after two individuals—a KDF officer and a lawyer from Gilgil—forged a death certificate and had his pension paid out to them as beneficiaries.

All the while, he said, he had been hospitalised and letters to the commission CEO went unanswered.

He said he recently came to learn that the KDF soldier had been documented as his son and awarded his benefits.

“They have pronounced me to be dead; they have used even a burial permit and death certificate in my file,” he said.

“Those are the crooks who forged that I’m their father, and I passed away.”

But in a quick disclaimer, the TSC said Sabwami was relieved of his duties the same year he claims people faked his death.

“The attention of the Teachers Service Commission has been drawn to an online video of its former teacher, Titus Sabwami, who is claiming that his death was faked and death gratuity paid to persons purporting to be his sons.

“The Commission would like to state as follows: Records at the Commission show that the teacher was dismissed from service in 2012, making him ineligible for payment of pension,” the commission said in a statement on X.

The commission further denied the existence of records of the complainant’s death or evidence showing that monies were paid out to claimants on account of his death.

“There is no record in our possession showing that the teacher is dead, or has had his pension claims processed,” TSC said.
