Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday told off MPs who are reportedly plotting his impeachment saying only Kenyans can remove him from office.

Speaking at a roadside rally at Wakulima Market in Nairobi, Gachagua said he was elected by Kenyans and not MPs.

“I was elected by Kenyans. It is those Kenyans who can remove me from the seat when the time comes,” he stated.

The DP further said the MPs behind his removal bid will not succeed in intimidating him.

“The other day, they brought together MPs and gave the money. They bribed them to intimidate me,” he claimed.

He thanked Starahe MP Amos Mwago, who had accompanied him for the rally, for distancing himself from the group of lawmakers who wanted him ejected.

“And when you go to the grassroots, I know people from Nyandarua and Murang’a are here, tell them to leave me alone,” he added.

He said leaders should be careful with the kind of politics they are playing so as not to destroy the country.

“After five years people will go to the polls. It's time to work, not time to hold meetings in hotels,” he said.

Gachagua said the Mt Kenya region supported President William Ruto in the 2022 elections without being coerced.

“Those plotting must respect us. Do not try us. Also, those insulting me should know that they are not insulting Gachagua but the people who voted for him,” he added.
