Garissa: Cops arrest 2 suspected criminals, recover AK 47

Security officers in Garissa on Saturday made a big breakthrough in the fight against runaway insecurity after two suspected criminals were arrested.

The two were apprehended in Bula Burburis, Galbet ward on the outskirts of Garissa town following a tip-off from the public.

Speaking to the press in Burburis area, Garissa subcounty police commander Samwel Boit said that the two were arrested alongside another person who was providing them with refuge.

Boit who was flanked by Garissa deputy county commissioner Thomas Bett disclosed that the police recovered an AK 47 riffle with 6 rounds of ammunition and two safes that the police suspect were stolen in one of the banks.

Also recovered was a white motor vehicle that was packed in the compound that the police boss said is believed to be used by the gang in their activities.

“We are happy to report that today we made a big breakthrough in the fight against criminals and gangs who have been causing insecurity and terrorizing the public within Bula Madina, Bula Burburis and its environs," he said.

“We got intelligence information and we mounted a special operation team comprising of officers from the Kenya police service, Administration police and the DCI personnel which led us to the site."

He disclosed that the two will be processed and taken to court once investigations are complete.

He thanked the public for volunteering information that helped in the arrest of the three calling for the same cooperation going forward.

He assured the public that such information would be treated with confidentiality further calling on wananchi to go about their business assuring them of their safety.

“I also want to appreciate my fellow officers for a well-planned and conducted operation. They sacrificed and now we can see the fruits. We have also intensified the patrols as well as collection of intelligence,” he said.

Garissa deputy county commissioner Thomas Bett commended the operation between the security officers and the public that led to the arrest.

He further said that the operations would go on and extend to all the settlements within Garissa disclosing that the security apparatus was aware that the criminal gang was big and that they would be pursued until they were all arrested.

“I can assure you that we will go for these criminals until we have arrested all of them. We will not rest until Garissa town and its environs are safe and secure for all,”  he said.
