The Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations (KENCO) has earned global recognition for its outstanding contribution to cancer advocacy and awareness, emerging as 1st runner-up at the prestigious World Cancer Day Campaign Awards during the World Cancer Congress held in Geneva.

The congress, organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), brings together leading organizations and stakeholders from across the globe to share insights, strategies, and innovations in the fight against cancer.

Represented by Executive Director Phoebe Ongadi and Board Secretary Prisca Githuka, KENCO presented two accepted abstracts that highlighted the organization’s commitment to cancer advocacy and care.

The national umbrella body of over 55 cancer civil society organizations was acknowledged for its impactful submission detailing the Cancer Survivors Festival, held on May 31, 2024, in Nairobi.

The festival, attended by over 500 cancer survivors, partners, stakeholders, advocates, and the media, served as a powerful platform to celebrate survivorship and raise awareness of cancer prevention and control.

KENCO said this international recognition not only underscores KENCO’s leadership in cancer advocacy but also shines a spotlight on Kenya and the ongoing efforts to combat cancer through public engagement and strategic partnerships.

“We are incredibly proud of this achievement, which reflects the hard work and passion of our members and partners. This award is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving meaningful change for those affected by cancer,” said KENCO’s Executive Director Phoebe Ongadi.

"This recognition solidifies KENCO’s position as a key player in the global cancer control landscape, further inspiring the organization to scale up efforts to reduce the cancer burden in Kenya and beyond."
