National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss has sought to confirm a plan to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Boss further went on to assert that she will take charge of the impeachment process when the matter comes up at the National Assembly.

“I will send you home myself. I am putting you on notice. You are going to be impeached, and I can confirm that to you,” she said in a video circulating on social media.

Boss went on to tell residents of Uasin Gishu County that President William Ruto will not have any problems when she is there.

Even as the impeachment debate rages, Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has filed a censure motion in the Senate to discuss Gachagua's character.

Mungatana stated that DP Gachagua has breached the law provisions on how he should conduct himself in office and administer his roles, accusing him of disregarding his oath of office.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Mungatana said Gachagua, since assuming office, has made utterances that continue to create tensions and divisions among Kenyans.

"The public utterances made by Rigathi have marginalized sections of Kenyans, created, and continue to heighten tension among different ethnic communities in Kenya," he said.

Gachagua and his boss, President William Ruto, have reportedly severed ties.

The DP has warned Ruto against betraying the support he received from the Mt. Kenya region during his presidential bid.

“He promised Kenyans that his deputy would never be humiliated under his watch. We are asking him to keep that promise. If he can’t keep this one, no one can trust him to keep any other,” Gachagua said on Sunday.

As the highest-ranking leader from the Mt. Kenya region, Gachagua warned the president against taking for granted the region’s overwhelming support in the 2022 election.
