The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested two Kenya Forest Service officers for allegedly weaving and executing a fraud syndicate in Garissa.

The two are accused of overpaying casual employees and later demanding the overpaid money from the casuals.

The Commission spokesperson, Eric Ngumbi, said they recovered Sh73,000.

The recovered amount EACC claims was part of the day’s collection from the casual employees.

Ngumbi alleged that the officials have routinely been depositing money in the casuals’ bank accounts disguised as legitimate payments.

He further claims that they then order the workers to withdraw and hand over the money to them.

It is alleged that the money collected in the syndicate is shared among the officers and their seniors.

The two suspects were arrested in an operation mounted by the Commission.

The suspects were processed at EACC North Eastern Regional Offiecs in Garissa and later booked at Garissa Police Station pending further processing.
