Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has landed a teaching role at Daystar University.

Kibwana landed the new opportunity to continue teaching law at the Daystar University Law School beginning January next year.

The former Makueni governor has previously been a law professor at the University of Nairobi School of Law for over two decades.

In a statement on X, the Harvard-trained professor said beginning January 2025, he will take up the role of teaching a Master of Law Programme.

“I thank God for the opportunity to serve at the Daystar University Law School as Professor after a previous 25 year stint at UoN. Another new beginning; I look forward to engagement in the Master of Laws Programme from January 2025," he said.

The former county boss expressed excitement at landing the new teaching role.

"Where the youth are, I pray I always be there,” he said.

Kibwana's second term as the first Governor of Makueni County ended in 2022 after which he has maintained a low profile in the political environment despite being a seasoned operative in that field.

Prior to being elected first Makueni governor, he was Minister for Defence, Minister for Environment and a former member of parliament for Makueni constituency and at one point served as an advisor to the late President Mwai Kibaki.

Prof Kibwana graduated with a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Nairobi in 1976 and a Master of Law.

He then proceeded to the University of London and George Washington University for further studies before graduating with a LLM in June 1984 from Harvard University.

During his stint at the University of Nairobi, Kibwana also served as the Associate Professor (1977-2002), Dean of the Faculty of Law, a senior lecturer and chairman of the Department of Private Law.

In his final year of his first term as governor, the Auditor General's Office ranked him alongside Nyandarua County Government as the best in the use of public funds for the 2017-18 financial year.

Kibwana previously haboured presidential ambitions but never really gave the high office a shot, seemingly preferring to serve the public by sharing his legal brilliance in lecture halls.
