Mother arrested as 2-month-old infant found dumped in Kitui

Police in Kitui are investigating an incident in which a two-month-old infant was found dumped within the Nzalae sub-location.

The baby was found dumped beside a footpath within Pangani village, police said.

According to Police officers who visited the scene the dumped baby boy aged about two months old had been rescued by a villager and was in good health.

The baby was rushed to Mwingi Hospital for medical attention and accommodation at the children's unit pending claim.

Upon investigation, police identified the mother, aged 20 years old, as the suspected mother of the baby boy.

She was traced and arrested at Kithyoko market and is being held at the police station pending arraignment in court.

The suspect is a resident of the Kithyoko location, police said.

Elsewhere, on Wednesday night, a fire incident occurred in the Mugae village within the Ruiri Rwarera location, Meru.

The man police identified as David Koome was clearing his farm by burning twigs at around 9:00pm in preparation for planting when the fire spread over to his farm.

During the process, the fire burnt his whole house and all assorted household goods, police said.

Police officers established land sale agreements belonging to his siblings were also destroyed in the fire.

Officers from Kathare Police Station visited the scene and necessary action was taken.

The value of the destroyed property is yet to be ascertained, police said.

The Case is still under investigation.
