MP Maalim calls for enhancement of Ruto’s safety during DP’s impeachment process

He alleges that some people might plan to harm the president, saying Ruto must be protected until the motion is over

Daadab MP Farah Maalim has called for the enhancement of the security and safety of President William Ruto during the impeachment motion against his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on the floor of the House on Tuesday, MP Maalim said the security of the President is of utmost concern and importance should be enhanced.

“Not only do we have to protect the lives of 291 MPs who have appended their signature there, we must also protect the system, the Inspector General must protect the President. We know the kind of constitution we have, any reckless thug can decide to change the cause of history, God forbid if anything were to happen to our President 

He further alleged that some people might plan to harm the president, saying Ruto must be protected until the motion is over.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah said the security of MPs is paramount, calling on the Inspector General of Police to ensure they are secured in and outside Parliament.

Ichung’wah added that the matter they are handling in Parliament is not of an ordinary nature.

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who is the mover of the impeachment motion, said he has no personal vendetta against the DP.

He said he was simply executing his mandate as a legislator in line with the constitution.

“I have no grudge, malice, ill will [or] personal vendetta against His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua. I’m just doing my duty as a citizen of the Republic of Kenya,” he said.

He said he was doing so in support of fidelity to the constitution, adherence to the rule of law and respect to God, qualities he said are the hallmark of a great nation.
