National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirms the receipt of a motion seeking to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The motion is dated September 27 and was received on the same date by the speaker.

In determining the admissibility of the motion, Wetang’ula confirmed that having examined it, the motion meets the requirements relating to form and threshold set out in Article 145 (1) and 150 (1)b of the constitution and standing orders 64 (1).

“I have also satisfied myself that the number of members who have appended their signatures in support of the special motion exceeds the minimum threshold of 117 members in this House,” he said.

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse earlier announced that he would be the mover of the motion.

Mwengi said he would anchor Gachagua’s ouster motion on the alleged violation of Articles 150 and 145 of the Kenyan constitution.

“The framers of our constitution must have intended the testing of every provision therein,” he said.

“That’s why, this afternoon, as part of my civic duty as a citizen and also as part of my role as MP, I will give notice of motion for the removal of the Deputy President from office, by impeachment, pursuant to Articles 150 and 145 of our Constitution.”

The MP added:

“The evidence we shall table will shock Kenyans. Watch this space.”
