CS Duale, German Ambassador hold talks on climate action collaboration

Environment, Climate Change and Forestry  Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Wednesday, October 2, hosted German Ambassador Sebastian Groth in a bid to explore opportunities for expanded collaboration with the European nation in climate action.

The collaboration will be realised through the flagship of a 15 billion tree-growing initiative and the ongoing restoration of the 47km Nairobi river ecosystem through the Climate Worx Mtaani.

Germany is one of Kenya's foremost climate action partners supporting several initiatives including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), the 3rd National Climate Change Action Plan (NCAP III) and last year's Africa Climate Summit.

Key areas discussed include the progress of the 2022 Climate Development Partnership signed between Kenya and Germany at COP27 in Egypt, the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and the trilateral mangrove rehabilitation pilot between Kenya, UAE and Germany.

The Cabinet Secretary was joined in the meeting by Ag Forest Conservation Secretary George Tarus and the ministry's Director for Climate Change  Pacifica Ogolla.
