Suspected thieves break into house, steal gun in Nairobi

Detectives are investigating claims by a French national who alleged that suspected thieves broke into his house in Westlands, Nairobi and stole his short gun and household goods.

The incident is believed to have happened on an unknown date between March and September this year.

The French man is a licensed gun holder and has been out of the country for more than six months.

He told police through his friend he had locked his house and left for France for a business trip.

The gun holder had sent his friend to the house to check on it when he realized the said incident.

This was an Ethiopian caretaker he had reportedly left to take care of the house went missing and could not be reached on the phone.

The friend opened the door using a spare key sent from France and realized the house turned upside down.

Police said the house had been ransacked and the weapon missing from a safe.

A team of police officers visited and it was established that all household items of unknown value were stolen from the house at unknown dates but between March and September 2024, the owner of the house was in France.

Electrical appliances and sinks in the house were also vandalized, police said.

Meanwhile, police in Maralal town, Samburu are investigating an incident in which a businesswoman was robbed of Sh800,000.

The woman who operates an electronic and M-Pesa shop in Kisma Trading Centre told police she was closing the establishment when a group of six men, two armed with firearms and others with crude weapons forced their way in.

They assaulted the victim and her two employees before they grabbed a handbag containing the cash and two mobile phones.

The gang then fired into the air as they escaped using motorcycles that were waiting in the Tuesday night drama.

Police believe the gang had prior information on the money hence the attack.

A probe is ongoing to get the gang and recover the weapon, police said.
