  • This was ahead of the gathering of the public views on Gachagua’s planned impeachment.
  • They are further heard chanting, “Kufa dereva, Kufa makanga” a phrase that is used in local slang to mean “Let come what may”.

A section of Nyeri residents on Friday took to the streets to protest over the impeachment motion facing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a video seen by The Star, the residents are heard chanting ‘No Rigathi, No Ruto’ with solidarity fists.

This was ahead of the public participation exercise set to be held in the county over the motion.

They were further heard chanting, “Kufa dereva, Kufa makanga” a phrase ostensibly to mean if Gachagua goes, his boss DP Ruto should also vacate office.

They then break into song and dance.

Kibwezi West MP Mutuse Mwengi Tuesday tabled the impeachment motion against Gachagua at the National Assembly.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula would later direct that public participation be held on Friday before the matter is debated and voted for,

“It would be absurd for anyone to think that a motion of this nature could be concluded without public participation. Article 182 of the Constitution clearly requires Parliament to facilitate public involvement in its legislative and other business, including the work of its committees,” Wetang’ula stated.

Mwengi during his tabling provided 11 grounds, with the public expected to tick whether they agree or not that the DP should be impeached or not.

Some of the accusations include corruption, abuse of office and gross violation of the constitution.

Security has also been heightened in various places across the country as public participation begins.

Kenyans are expected to give their views on the impeachment.
