The Political Parties
Disputes Tribunal has issued orders stopping the Registrar of Political Parties
from replacing Cleophas Malala with Hassan Omar as UDA secretary general.
The tribunal
restrained Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu from effecting the
changes in the ruling party UDA pending inter partes hearing of an application
on October 16, 2024 at 2.30pm.
“The respondent
to immediately re-serve their responses upon the applicant via email address
exchanged in the virtual platform,” the PPDT ruling reads in part.
The matter was
heard by Desma Nungo, Stephen Musau, Muzna Jin and Abdirahman Adan Abdikadir.
UDA removed
Malala as secretary general on August 2, 2024, after weeks of intense wrangling
in the party.
The expulsion
followed resolution of a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting presided over
by the party’s national chairperson, Cecile Mbarire.
“The appointment of Cleophas Malala as the
interim secretary general is hereby revoked. These changes are effective
immediately,” the party said in a statement.
Omar who is the
party’s vice chairperson, was named acting secretary general in the changes.
