Probe launched as British national murdered in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa are investigating the gruesome murder of 75-year-old British national John Middleton.

Middleton was allegedly attacked and murdered at his home in Majaoni, Utange.

Mombasa DCI boss James Lelia confirmed that Middleton was killed on Saturday night.

He was alone in the house.

"We have launched an investigation into the murder. Several statements have been recorded," said Lelia.

He said a Panga was found at the crime scene.

"DNA from recovered panga have been obtained. Will be taken for further tests," said Lelia.

Police also obtained CCTV footage from the neighbouring houses.

Middleton was a fairly wealthy man, according to the source.
