First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto hosted the 2024 First Lady's Mazingira Awards (FLAMA) winners at Nairobi National Park on Thursday.
The event highlighted the intrinsic link between environmental restoration, conservation, and wildlife protection, showcasing the importance of these efforts in safeguarding Kenya’s natural resources for future generations.
“When we protect the environment and restore natural habitats, we create sanctuaries where wildlife can thrive, contributing to our heritage and economy,” the First Lady noted, underscoring the broader impact of conservation efforts.
The FLAMA winners, who were recognised for their outstanding contributions to environmental restoration, were given a firsthand experience of Kenya's wildlife, an eye-opening journey that took place in one of the country's most famous national parks.
The experience served as a reminder of the essential role young people play in conservation efforts. "This memory will be a powerful reminder of their role in our conservation efforts," she added.
The visit, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), combined educational insights with thrilling encounters with Kenya's iconic wildlife.
"We thank the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, and the Kenya Wildlife Service for the educational and exciting experience for the children," said the First Lady, expressing her gratitude to the key partners involved in making the event a success.
