The government is set to increase services at Huduma centres across the country to ease access to essential services.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi said the government was committed to devolving public services to the grassroots through the Huduma centres.

Speaking on Sunday during a visit to Lambwe National Youth Service Centre in Homa Bay, Muturi said the objective was to cushion Kenyans from travelling long distances in search of the services.

Huduma centres were started across the country by the government to provide services to the people as a one-stop shop.

Muturi said the government will increase more services in Huduma centres to enable citizens to get served efficiently.

He said the government was committed to easing the costs incurred by citizens to travel long distances to areas where the services were centralised.

“I cannot say how many or the percentage of the services we are going to add to Huduma Kenya but we are in the process of adding more services,” Muturi said.

“Our objective is to alleviate Kenyans from the burden of travelling long distances in search of government services.”

The CS urged county governments to take a cue and take their services to Huduma centres to improve service delivery to the people.

Muturi said the provision of county government services in Huduma centres will cushion citizens from the burden of travelling from one county department to another.

“There is no need for citizens to keep moving from one county office to another in search of services which can be offered at a central place. I urge our county governments to bring their services to Huduma Kenya in large numbers,” Muturi said.

The CS said they had started the Huduma Mashinani programme which involves the provision of mobile services from Huduma centres.

In this programme, government officials from Huduma centres move to interior parts of counties to serve residents occasionally.

“We encourage our workers to continue serving citizens better. I have been impressed by the Huduma Mashinani Programme and I encourage it to continue because we need to reach out to as many citizens with government services as possible,” Muturi said.
