ODM has announced it will conduct its grassroots elections in November with a sharp warning against individuals planning to engage in violence.

The party said anyone found guilty of causing violence will be disqualified automatically.

Exiting ODM leader Raila Odinga said the party has to maintain its integrity.

“As you are all aware, we will hold our grassroots elections next month. These elections are crucial to reactivating our party in every village and neighbourhood. Let this exercise be one that strengthens our unity, rather than sowing seeds of division and hatred,” Raila said.

He spoke in Mombasa during a party National Executive Council meeting that ratified the new leadership structure.

The new structure saw the leadership of the party officially bestowed on Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o as Raila focuses on his bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

Nyong’o will be deputised by three deputy party leaders including governors Abduslwamad Nassir (Mombasa), Simba Aarati (Kisii) and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
