Police probe six separate drowning cases across the country

The victims include juveniles and a foreign national.

A German national is among six people who drowned separately and whose cases police are investigating. 

The lifeless body of Peter Willy, 80, was found in the swimming pool of a hotel in Diani area, Kwale County.

Police said he was playing in the pool on October 8 when he drowned.

A resident at the facility spotted the body and raised alarm before he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to Pandia Hospital in Mombasa for preservation and autopsy.

Police visited the pool as part of the probe into the incident. The team handling the case said they had interrogated attendants who were on duty whenthe incident happened.

Elsewhere in Yatta, Machakos County, a nine-year-old boy who is a Grade Four pupil at Mount Olive Primary School drowned in a fish pond within their residential compound.

The boy’s mother said she found him drowned after he tried fishing.

The body was moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy.

In Khayega, Kakamega County, the body of an unknown male adult was found floating on River Yala.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body retrieved by the area community leaders.

The body which had marks on the hands and which is believed to have been mutilated was moved to Kakamega County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and autopsy.

Police want those whose kin and friends are missing to visit the facility for identification.

It is also suspected the man was killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the river.

An investigation into the discovery is ongoing.

River Yala is famous for being a dumping site for people killed elsewhere.

In Bondo, Siaya County, a body was found in Uyawi water pond within the Central Sakwa location.

Police said they visited the scene and found the body of a male juvenile floating on the banks of the water pond.

The body was later identified by locals as that of an 11-year-old boy from the same area.

The parents of the boy explained he went missing on October 10 at around noon and that he had a medical history of epilepsy. It is not clear how he drowned at the pond.

The body was moved to Bondo Subcounty Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

In Malaika’s Shimanyiro location, Kakamega County, a body was found floating in River Isukhu after suspected drowning.

The family members identified him as Silas Munyata, 28 who went missing on October 9.

His body was found four days later and was decomposed.

Police with the help of the public managed to retrieve the body, which had no visible injuries.

The body was moved to the Kakamega mortuary for preservation and postmortem.

Police said another body of a three-year-old minor in an uncovered well in Shikhambiarea, Kakamega County.

The body, which had no visible marks was removed to Kakamega General Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Police say they are investigating the incidents for possible action.
