First of all, we need to put things into context.
The way the country is being run is like we are in a state of emergency, which we are not.
They are rushing the constitutional process the way they want and basically flouting all fairness.
On the face of it, it is clearly emerging Rigathi Gachagua is not being given a fair hearing, nor is the whole process looking fair.
It is a lynching opportunity. The constitution provides that the nomination of the Deputy President is done within 14 days and Parliament has 60 days to vote.
Clearly, we can tell there is a predetermined outcome and that is why they are rushing.
The High Court has already ruled that Gachagua has a right of appeal, so then what will be the effect?
Parliament is continuously looking like a laughing stock. They are doing things clearly showing it is the Executive pushing them.
This whole thing looks like a charade. Unfortunately, it is now emerging the whole process was choreographed from the beginning.
You have some MPs saying they have been bribed with a promise that if they vote against Gachagua then Kindiki will become the next DP. What kind of Parliament do we have that cannot even interrogate the charge sheet before it?
If they never convened the National Assembly to discuss the floods that carried homes, honestly what is so urgent in impeaching Gachagua? It is not that we are at war.
The manner in which they are rushing it contradicts other processes of approval. We take time to interrogate the Cabinet Secretaries, who are junior to the Deputy President.
We take time to interrogate the Principal Secretaries or Controller of Budget – people who are junior to the Deputy President.
Why is the impeachment of the Deputy President so rushed? This just shows you it is about political expediency, and the person behind all this is President William Ruto himself.
It is like the country is in a state of anarchy. It means they have a predetermined outcome.
