Abraham Cheruiyot (R) and Benjamin Leting are among the residents of Eldoret who supported CS Kindiki Kindiki’s elevation to the DP position.

Residents of Eldoret have welcomed the nomination of interior CS Professor Kithure Kindiki to replace Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President.

The residents on Friday said Kindiki deserves the position because of his good performance in the interior docket for the last two years.

The residents led by Benjamin Leting and Abraham Cheruiyot said Kindiki had the necessary academic qualifications and experience to help President William Ruto discharge his mandate.

“Kindiki is a quiet man who focuses on his work and has a passion for serving Kenyans. We applaud the president for picking him as the new DP,” Leting said.

Cheruiyot said Kindiki was the one to take up the position of running mate in the last elections and his elevation to DP position is commendable.

“That position was for Kindiki originally and it has just gone back to where it belonged. Kindiki is a performer and his elevation is a plus for tne president,” Cheruiyot said.

Women community leaders led by Roseline Kigen said although they would have wished the president picked a woman for the position, Kindiki was equally a good pick supported by Kenyans.

“Even from recent opinion polls we have noted that many Kenyans prefer Kindiki and so the President has done well to go for the CS,” Kigen said.

She urged the government to focus on issues affecting Kenyans and end politicking.

“They should now keenly look at the real issues disturbing Kenyans like high cost of living and problems in the education sector,” Kigen.

A section of the business community in the region led by Stephen Mugwira urged Ruto and Kindiki to now focus on strengthening the economy.

Ruto on Friday nominated Kindiki as the next Deputy President following the impeachment of Gachagua Thursday night.

Kindiki's name has been submitted to the National Assembly where MPs are expected to vote on it.

Speaker Moses Wetang'ula announced the appointment in a special Sitting convened on Friday.
