The Media Council of Kenya has launched a model platform for content management and monetisation at an event presided over by MCK CEO David Omwoyo in Machakos on Friday.

Kenya Press Clubs can now access the portal through www.pressclub.or.ke

MCK said the portal will provide press clubs from different parts of the country with tools and resources to manage content effectively.

It also expects that the press clubs will leverage this opportunity to gain an understanding of the processing and distribution of content on different platforms as well as ways of generating revenue through content.

MCK CEO David Omwoyo highlighted the council’s support in the establishment of press clubs in the country deeming it as a strategic initiative aimed at empowering journalists, promoting press freedom and strengthening professionalism in the industry.

“The Council acknowledges the changing media landscape in Kenya and beyond. It is against this background that we have rolled out support for the establishment of press clubs in Kenya with a view of assisting journalists to align their activities to the media’s paradigm shift, including the emergence of entrepreneurial journalism,” Omwoyo said.

Omwoyo also added that press clubs are purposed to function as a key platform for journalists and media practitioners to come together for collaboration, professional development, digital content generation, and cooperative entrepreneurial journalism activities.

“Press clubs have evolved in Kenya and are now taking a more professional approach. We seek to enhance this by supporting journalists across the country to come together to provide a framework where they can share experiences and skills and advocate for professionalism. Such efforts will contribute to a vibrant and independent media sector that serves the public interest and upholds democratic values in Kenya,” Omwoyo said

The establishment of press clubs in Kenya therefore, aims to foster a vibrant and empowered community of journalists and enhance professional viability in the sector through monetization of digital content and venturing in entrepreneurial journalism as a whole."
