Police from Matinyani Police Station are probing the circumstances under which an 80-year-old man died in Kitui
County.
According to police, the man
identified as Kavuswa Kitema was suspected to have committed suicide at his home in Matinyani.
Police officers arrived at the
scene and found Kitema’s dead body hanging from a roof at his home.
Police said his neck was tied with a leso and the main door of the house was partially opened.
Police officers processed the scene and the body moved to Kitui County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
In Ngandone village in Meru, the
body of a man identified as Benson Mwiti, 48, was discovered hanging
from a tree.
The deceased's brother, Silas Kimathi, learned
of the situation from local children who reported seeing someone hanging from
the tree on Mwiti's farm, police said.
The scene was secured and documented by officers from Murungurune Police Station.
No suicide note was found, police
said.
Mwiti’s body was moved to
Kanyakine Hospital morgue for preservation until an autopsy can be performed.
Meanwhile in Elgeyo Marakwet, a
69-year-old man identified as Hosea Rorio, who was mentally ill is alleged to have tossed himself
in a borehole that was half full of water, and passed on.
Officers from Chesuman Police Station officers said residents of the area helped the officers to retrieve the body.
No suicide note was recovered in the incident, police said.
Police officers noted the body had
no visible injuries.
The body was moved to the
Samaritan mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Elsewhere in Muranga, a 47-year-old man identified as Moses Ngiciri died by allegedly hanging himself in the truss of his house using an electric cable.
Police officers who processed the scene said no suicide note was recovered.
Ngiciri’s body was moved to Murang'a Level 5 Hospital
mortuary awaiting autopsy.
The case remains open as police work to gather more details.
The World Health Organisation emphasises the importance of recognising warning signs of suicidal thoughts.
These can include withdrawal from social activities, drastic changes in behavior, and expressions of hopelessness.
