In Summary

  • This is a serious matter for national security, national cohesiveness and can bring high political temperatures.
  • These are not sentiments coming from an ordinary Kenyan, although every citizen is guaranteed security by the state.

Rigathi Gachagua

First and foremost, I will not dismiss Gachagua’s claims that his life is in danger, I will not just dismiss them as claims geared towards gaining public sympathy.

They are claims that should be fully investigated and, if true, whoever is behind them is brought to book. Any Kenyan, including leaders elected or not, can see and think through our actions, utterances and behaviour.

This is a serious matter for national security, national cohesiveness and can bring high political temperatures. These are not sentiments coming from an ordinary Kenyan, although every citizen is guaranteed security by the state.

In this case, I think it should be looked into and the country should be given updates of the action taken. Gachagua is a leader who has followers and what he is claiming, if true, is dangerous for the country and if the claims are untrue then it is even more dangerous to national cohesion. Government should look into all these claims.

The court should also be allowed to do what it is supposed to do since part of this matter is before judges. He is still the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.

Today I heard top government officials reiterating the country is under the rule of law and that is why the DP nominee Kithure Kindiki was not given a chance to invite President William Ruto in Kwale during the Mashujaa celebrations.

Withdrawing his security was rushed, he is still the Deputy President, if we are still governed by the rule of law. Let us not go too far, it is not necessary. Withdrawing his security, sending his staff away is not necessary.

If they are determined to remove him, let them follow the law and deal with him inside UDA. We could be playing with fi re without knowing.

There are very strong signs – although I have seen some politicians claim there is no tension in Kenya as a result of what is happening, but I can tell you there is serious tension.

If you listen to what Kenyans are saying, even in social media, I can tell you if today there were to be elections this government will be voted out by the people.
