Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Beatrice Nkatha Nyaga, the former Woman Representative for Tharaka Nithi County.
In a tweet, Gachagua expressed deep sorrow over Nkatha's passing, calling her a "transformative leader" and a "genuine friend."
“It was with deep sadness that I learnt of the passing on of the former Tharaka Nithi County Woman Rep. Beatrice Nkatha Nyaga," Gachagua tweeted.
He fondly remembered serving with her in the 12th Parliament, praising her dedication to public service. "Hon. Nkatha was a friendly, people-focused servant—a leader who stopped at nothing to deliver the best in discharging her duties."
Nkatha, who served two terms in Parliament from 2013 to 2022, passed away while receiving treatment at Kiirua Mission Hospital in Meru on Friday, October 18, 2024.
Her death was announced on Friday by the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), which lauded her as a "visionary leader" committed to championing women's rights and empowering communities.
Gachagua's tribute highlighted Nkatha's impact as a compassionate leader, stating, "We have lost a transformative leader. May the Lord comfort her family, relatives, and friends. Rest in peace, Hon. Nkatha."
He also recalled her motherly nature and their friendship, calling her "a resoundingly resourceful leader."
Nkatha's focus on women's empowerment, healthcare, and education in Tharaka Nithi County earned her widespread admiration.
Her dedication to community development and advocacy for gender equality has left a lasting legacy, with leaders and citizens mourning her untimely death.
