She spoke to the Star at her office in Athi River town hours after the incident had occurred.

“Members of the public reported to the station that there was a female body lying near Alim Secondary School along Kyumbi – Machakos road within Kyamutheke area in Kinanie division, Athi River subcounty.

Police officers, DCI and Machakos scenes of crime personnel rushed to the scene and found the body of unknown middle-aged woman lying beside the road,” Muthoni said.

“Her private parts had been inflicted with injury using a blunt object and she appeared to have have been raped and was heavily bleeding. The deceased was dressed in buibui and hijab,” Muthoni said.

Muthoni said it is believed the deceased was murdered elsewhere and her body dumped at the scene near the secondary school.

She said the scene was processed by scene of crime personnel from Machakos county police headquarters and removed to Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy and identification.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives attached to Kyumbi police station have launched investigations into the incident.

The woman’s body was found barely two days after police collected bodies belonging to three suspected gangsters lynched by mobs in two separate incidents within the same Athi River subcounty.

In the first incident, unidentified man was lynched after he was subjected to mob injustice in Kyumbi, Athi River subcounty.

Muthoni said the deceased was killed by the public after he was reportedly found in possession of a stolen motorcycle within Kyumbi township on Sunday during Mashujaa Day.

The incident was reported as a mob injustice incident at Kyumbi police station vide OB number 22/20/10/2024.

“It was reported by OCS Kyumbi police station that he received information from members of the public that unknown suspect, motorcycle thief, had been arrested by members of the public and were planning to expose him to mob injustice. A team of DCI and KPS officers were dispatched to the scene who on arrival found that the said suspect had already been subjected to mob injustice through lynching leading to his demise,” Muthoni said.

Police removed the body to Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy and identification.

In the second incident, the police chief said two suspected car robbers were lynched at the Nairobi – Namanga road interchange near Shalom Community hospital in Athi River on the Sunday.

Muthoni said the two unidentified men who had disguised themselves as passengers had attacked the driver of a lorry they were riding on with the intention of robbing him of the motor vehicle before they were killed by the public.

The incident was reported at Athi River police station as attempted robbery incident vide OB number 7/20/10/2020 at 6.16am.

Muthoni said the incident was reported by the motor vehicle’s owner, a Mombasa resident.

“The reportee said his driver, Andrew Makau Musili (44) had been attacked by two male passengers on board. The passengers boarded the vehicle at Maungu area in Voi, Taita Taveta county to the Nairobi – Namanga Road interchange in Athi River, Machakos county before they turned on the driver,” Muthoni said.

She said orderly and duty officer and DCI together with accident standby police rushed to the scene and established that the two passengers tried to rob the motor vehicle that was transporting biscuits from Mombasa to Nyahururu through Nakuru.

“They started assaulting the driver who was seriously injured as the attackers tried to take control of the vehicle, but lost control and it overturned prompting boda boda operators to respond when the two tried to escape from the scene,” the police boss said.

“The driver informed the riders of the incident and the two were caught and set on fire by the angry mob, burning them beyond recognition.”

Muthoni said no identification documents were found at the scene.

The bodies were removed to the City mortuary for autopsy and identification, while the driver was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital for treatment.

The motor vehicle was towed to Athi River police station as DCI Athi River continues with investigations.
