Activist Kasmuel McOure and Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua have trailed the 2024 list of heroes.

The latest survey by Infotrak released on Wednesday showed the two scored one per cent in ranking.

Others include businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, Murang’a Governor, Irungu Kang’ata, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna who scored only one per cent each.

Comedian Erick Omondi and Kenyan athletes were also voted least with 1 per cent each.

Deputy President-elect Kithure Kindiki and Busia Senator Okiya Omtata had two per cent each.

The survey was conducted between September 27 and 28 among 800 respondents nationwide with a ±3.5 per cent at 95 per cent degree of confidence.

The survey covered all the 8 regions of Kenya.

It sought to identify the most celebrated individuals for their contributions to Kenya's progress and history.

Quantitative interviews were conducted through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews.

When asked whether the country has done enough to honor its heroes and heroines, the respondents were divided, with a majority feeling that more should be done.

"65 per cent of respondents believed that Kenya had not done enough to recognize and honour its national heroes and heroines properly," the poll shows.

"This sentiment was strongest in Coast (75 per cent) North Eastern (55 per cent) and Eastern (67 per cent) regions that have historically felt marginalised and may see this as a reflection of broader dissatisfaction with national policy and recognition," it says.

According to the poll, 23 per cent of respondents view Gen Zs as emerging national heroes due to their contributions to environmental activism, social justice, and technological solutions.

Raila Odinga was the most frequently mentioned hero, with 18 per cent of respondents nationwide recognising him.

"Faith Kipyegon, a celebrated Kenyan athlete, followed closely with 11 per cemt of the national mention. Her remarkable achievements in athletics have made her a symbol of national pride."

The poll shows her influence was evenly spread, with a notable 12 per cent support in Central and Eastern regions, showing her appeal beyond the sports domain into the broader national identity.
