Education PS Belio Kipsang is visiting schools in Eldoret and other parts of North Rift to asses readiness for KPSEA and KCSE exams which kick off next week.

Kipsang said all was set for the KPSEA exams that start on Monday with more than 1.2 million sitting for the Grade 6 exams and another 965,000 expected to sit KCSE.

“Our children are well set for the exams and as stakeholders, we are satisfied that they are adequately prepared by parents and teachers to be able to reflect on all that they have learned,” Kipsang said.

He was speaking at Kimalel Primary school in Eldoret city.

The PS said for KPSEA, there will be no strict invigilation and candidates will be allowed to do the assessment in a free environment with their teachers.

“We won’t have the usual heavy policing for KPSEA because we think our teachers are able to do it having successfully handled the class-based assessment,” Kipsang said.

He said the learners would subjected to a 40 per cent summative assessment because they had already gone through a 60 per cent class-based assessment.

Kipsang said a recent assessment had proved that the teachers were properly handling the progression of the learners in capturing the competences, values and skills as per the CBC programme.

“All our learners have different capacities and potentials which we are working to develop in them. All we are doing through KPSEA is to monitor their progress as they move to the next level of Grade 7,” Kipsang said.

He said the system would eliminate certificates and put in place assessment reports.

“We will have a report that goes to the child, another one to the school and a third one to the government to inform policy formulation,” the PS explained.

On Form 4 exams, Kipsang said they will work closely with the Interior Ministry to ensure success of the KCSE exams in all areas.

The PS said candidates should equally be relaxed because they will be examined on what they have learned and nothing new.

“We want the children to bring out their actual potentials and that is why we are asking that we give them that opportunity to do so by not interfering in any way,” Kipsang said.

The PS said the exam papers for KCSE had been delivered in all areas and government officers will be round the country to ensure they work with other stakeholders for the success of the exams.
