Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has implored his supporters to remain peaceful regardless of the outcome of the court case challenging his removal from office.

Speaking in Limuru at the memorial service of Mwalimu Geoffrey Murugami on Wednesday, Gachagua asked people from Mt Kenya to keep in mind that communities from other regions have not wronged them.

“I want to ask for peace. The Mt Kenya region should remain peaceful and interact with other communities peacefully because they have not wronged us. Regardless of the outcome of the court case, our people should remain peaceful,” he added.

Gachagua thanked his supporters for staying calm during his impeachment and not going to the streets to protest.

“There are people who are asking why there were no protests, or if I do not have a following. Going to the streets is not what we do. The day will come when we do what we do,” he added.

Gachagua further said MPs are not being given a chance to address the faithful in the church because people are unhappy with them.

“Your MPs are not given a chance to speak in church because people are not happy with them. What they have done in Parliament has annoyed people,” he added.

He nonetheless drummed up support for Kiambi senator Karungo Thangwa, Githungiri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and her Juja counterpart George Koimburi saying the three cannot be bribed.

“Thangwa cannot be bought. Pray for him and also Gathoni Wamuchomba and George Koimburi,” he said.

Gachagua added that he has confidence the Judiciary will deliver justice.

“We have faith that the Judiciary will protect and uphold the Constitution,” he stated.

A court blocked President William Ruto’s nominee for new deputy president a day after lawmakers voted to remove Gachagua from office over accusations of gross misconduct and undermining the president.

Of the 11 charges levelled against Gachagua, including accusations of gross misconduct, irregular acquisition of wealth and undermining the president, he was found guilty of five.
