Father to former Speaker of the 10th Parliament Kenneth Marende has died.
The family in a newspaper obituary confirmed that Eliud Josia Marende had died on October 16, after a short illness.
The family said he was undergoing treatment at Nightingale Hospital in Kisumu County.
Eliud, born in 1929 died at the age of 95 years.
"It is with humble acceptance of God's will that we announce the promotion to glory of Baba Mwalimu Eliud Josia Marende that occurred on October 16, 2024 at Nightingale Hospital Kisumu after a short illness," the orbit reads.
"Family and friends are meeting daily at home in Luanda Township and Hon Marende's residence in Masero for prayers and preparations for babu's send-off," it reads.
Family and friends will hold a meeting on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at his Mumboha, Luanda Residence from 2 pm for prayers, support and preparations.
According to the details provided by the family, the cortege will leave Nightingale Mortuary Kisumu on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 10 am.
It will be followed by a funeral service at St Stephens (Hattiko) ACK Church Luanda and thereafter an overnight vigil at his home in Luanda Township.
He will then be laid to rest on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
The burial ceremony will be held at Mumboha Grounds, Luanda, the family has said.
Eliud was the son of the late Mzee Josia Ombwara Marende and Mama Ruth Monyo Marende from Mumboha Village, Luanda, Vihiga County.
Ex-speaker Marende's mother, Dorina Marende, passed away in January 2022 aged 87.
