A suspected scrap metal thief was lynched by a mob in Kiirua
area of Meru County.
According to police officers at the scene, the unidentified male adult had suffered severe injuries, reportedly inflicted by a mob who accused him of stealing scrap metal from a yard owned by a resident.
The public's response was immediate and violent, highlighting the tension surrounding theft in the area, police said.
Kiirua Police officers processed the scene, documenting evidence and collecting statements from witnesses to understand the circumstances leading to the man’s death.
The multiple injuries observed on the body suggested a brutal attack, and police were keen to gather as much information as possible to ascertain the events that unfolded.
Following the scene investigation, the body was transported to the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
There, it will await identification and a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and to confirm the identity of the deceased, police said.
Meanwhile, in Siaya a 51-year-old man identified as Ronald Ngala collapsed and died while walking along the street near a bus stage.
According to police officers at the scene, Ngala was unresponsive and had no visible signs of physical injury on his body.
Police say the absence of any external wounds or trauma raised questions about the cause of his sudden collapse and subsequent death.
Ngala's body was taken to Siaya County Referral Mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.
Elsewhere in Kiirua, Meru, a 29-year-old man was found dead in his house.
The man police identified as Jeremiah Muriithi was found lying dead on his bed inside his wooden house in Nkunga village.
Notably, there were no visible injuries on his body, police said
According to police, To access the house, officers had to break through the front wooden door, indicating that the door may have been locked or barricaded from the inside.
Police officers processed the scene, collecting any potential evidence and ensuring that the area was secured.
Given the lack of external injuries and the circumstances of entry, officers considered various possibilities regarding Muriithi's death, including health issues or other underlying factors.
Following the initial investigation, Muriithi’s body was transported to Cool Breeze Funeral Home, where it will be held pending an autopsy.
