President William Ruto has assured that the government will go all it can to combat cases of femicide in the country.

Speaking at a church service at African Divine Church in Nairobi, Ruto said the government will provide resources to the police to deal with the crime.

“Our girls are being killed. People who we should be showing love, people who we should be loving are being killed. How can it be that our girls, the Kenyan women who expect us to love them are dying in the hands of men,” he posed.

The President noted that with the rise in femicide cases, the country is faced with a criminal and moral problem.

“We have to address both of them. As parents, starting with me, we must also deal with the moral issue. We must not just point fingers as to who should do what. We should start by saying what should I do because it is hurting our girls and our citizens,” he stated.

Over 90 women have been killed over last three months, but DCI says trend is not gender-based.

Police assured Kenyans of its commitment to thoroughly investigate femicide cases, urging society, government, and religious leaders to engage in collective efforts to end the violence.

On Sunday, Coalition for Grassroots Human Rights Defenders Kenya raised alarm over the government's perceived lack of urgency in addressing the increasing cases of femicide.

The lobby voiced concerns that existing laws and penal codes are inadequate, as the cases continue to rise despite legal provisions meant to protect women.

It urged Ruto to take a decisive stand by declaring femicide a national disaster, calling for coordinated action from both state and non-state actors.

The group warned that treating femicide with disregard undermines fundamental human rights, including the right to life, dignity, and protection from degrading treatment.
