The Orange Democratic Movement party is set to hold its grassroots elections on November 27, 2024, across all polling units in 47 counties.

The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC),  which oversees the party’s election processes,  announced the new election after a previous postponement due to widespread flooding in April.

The NECC, established under Article 61 of the Party Constitution, is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting ODM’s elections.

The elections, ODM said,  will fill vital roles across different committees and ensure fair representation within the party’s structure.

The election will bring together party officials, with each polling unit electing leaders for three key committees: the Mainstream, Women League, and Youth League.

Within the Mainstream category, several positions are open, including Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Treasurer, Women Leader, Youth Leader, and three Committee Members.

For the Women and Youth League categories, positions will include Chairperson, Secretary, Organizing Secretary, and three committee members each.

Emphasizing inclusivity, the NECC noted that“persons with disabilities and minorities will be mainstreamed in these categories”.

ODM has mandated consensus or voting by a show of hands as the election method, allowing flexibility in how party members choose their representatives.

Voting will take place from 10 am to 4 pm on the designated day. In preparation, NECC noted that "members are encouraged to read and acquaint themselves with the guidelines for grassroots elections".

The NECC Chairperson also highlighted the collaborative role of County Election Coordinators, who will work closely with polling units to ensure smooth elections.

The NECC further reminded party members to verify their membership details via the dedicated USSD code *483*036#.

The committee also reassured members that the sub-branch, Branch, and County Coordinating Committee structure and membership remain unchanged.

Additional roll-out details will be provided after the completion of polling unit elections.

ODM is calling on members to engage actively and stay informed adding that “To guarantee a credible process, we urge our party members to continuously engage the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) for any clarifications”.
